De Vara Day Spa opened its doors in September 2011 and is superbly located in the Penthouse of the exclusive Aquarius Suites on Blouberg Beachfront. It boasts panoramic views of Table Mountain, the Atlantic Ocean and Durbanville Winelands. The décor is crisp, clean and bright with hues of silver, sky blue and white.
I was welcomed by spa manager, Giselle Soares, who presented me with my personalised treatment menu for the day. My half day package began with a glass of champagne and a light Mediterranean style lunch of vegetable tartlet with a balsamic reduction. Dessert was fresh berries on mint leaves with chocolate coated ice cream – the perfect accompaniment for chilled champagne on a warm summer day. The restaurant area has uninterrupted views of the waves and ocean with an occasional passing paraglider or kite surfer.
For my first spa treatment I relaxed back into a large reclining armchair facing full length windows with magnificent views of Table Mountain and the city to enjoy the Purifying Foot Ritual – a sea salt exfoliation, detoxifying seaweed soak and massage whilst sipping on organic herbal tea. This was followed by an Ocean Sensation Massage, focusing on the back of the body incorporating wave and rocking techniques. My final treatment was the Marine Hydration Facial with Thalgo products to combat dehydration.
The spacious relaxation area has a Jacuzzi and infra-red sauna. De Vara Day Spa offers various packages, including a Breakfast Package for those clients who are limited for time. The location, layout and choice of spa treatments makes this perfect for groups and corporate events.
