Serums vs Moisturizers. What’s the difference?
Serums are lightweight formulations with a higher concentration of active ingredients than Moisturizers.
They are usually thin and readily absorbed into the skin, leaving little remaining on the surface of the skin.
Serums address a variety of skin concerns, from anti-aging, skin brightening, hydration or oil regulation. They are designed to penetrate deeply into the skin, due to their smaller molecular size.
Moisturizers have a thicker texture to create a physical barrier on the surface of the skin to lock in moisture and prevent dehydration.
Some moisturizers have added anti-aging or brightening ingredients, so they can be multi-functional.
Serums and Moisturizers are designed to be used together. Skincare products are layered from thinnest to thickest, with the thinnest product being applied to the skin first.
Serums are intended to deliver active ingredients deep into the skin, while moisturizers forms a seal to make serums more effective and to protect from the external environment.
Expert tip: Apply your serum onto your face and neck, and wait 30 -60 seconds for the serum to absorb properly before you apply your moisturizer over.
Serums and moisturizers can be used both morning and evening.
