DERMALOGICA SPONSORS 4,000 FREE KIVA TRIAL LOANS TO CREATE A RIPPLE EFFECT OF CHANGE FOR COMMUNITIES WORLDWIDE
Dermalogica is sponsoring $100,000 in microloans for women entrepreneurs.
Dermalogica, in partnership with Kiva.org, is providing $100,000 in free trial loans so new Kiva users can help women start a ripple effect of change for themselves, their families, and their communities. On September 13, 2012, 4,000 new Kiva users will have the opportunity to redeem a $25 free trial loan for a woman entrepreneur, empowering her to become financially independent.
This is the latest commitment between Dermalogica and Kiva.org through their joinFITE partnership and shared commitment to economically empower women. Launched in January 2011, joinFITE aims to empower 25,000 women into Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship by helping them to start or grow a business. As a result of the 4,000 free trial loans, joinFITE will exceed this initial goal before the end of 2012.
“When we educate and invest in a woman, she then reinvests in her children, the boys and the girls, to ensure that they are healthy and educated. This begins a virtuous cycle of change, and a positive ripple effect occurs.” Jane Wurwand, Founder and Owner of Dermalogica.
Consider the facts:
- There are 876 million illiterate adults in the developing world – over 65% are women.
- 76 million primary school-age children are not in school – 60% are girls.
- Over 1 billion people live in extreme poverty – 75% are women and girls.
However, when she has the opportunity to learn, the story changes dramatically:
- A child born to a mother who can read is 50% more likely to survive past the age of five.
- Every additional year of education a girl receives yields a 20% increase in her future earning potential.
- Research shows that when a woman contributes to her family’s income, she reinvests up to 90% of her earnings to build a better future for herself and her children.
