The official SA Spa Association Spa Index 2013 is now available .The Spa Index is the perfect consumer reference of South African Spas and Spa Information, that ensures the spa visitor is guaranteed a spa experience, which not only meets international standards but also exceeds clients spa expectations.
In the past science and spas have been seen as two ideas from opposite ends of the spectrum. However, the current trend in the spa industry seems to be moving away from pure relaxation and pampering towards the scientific approach.
Although many people still associate spas with pampering, spas are becoming an integral part of a wellness routine, spa treatments can help maintain mental, physical and emotional well being.
With healthcare in a global crisis, prevention of illness has moved to the forefront on the world health stage and the spa industry’s role in prevention-focused health care has become paramount. In a global survey, Spa Finder – the world’s largest spa and wellness media and marketing company recognised that there’s a growing body of medical evidence about the proven benefits of spa treatments like massage, meditation, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, exercise, etc.
The New York Times recently reported on a Cedars-Sinai study that revealed a 45-minute massage resulted in a significant decrease in stress hormones, while boosting immunity. Another study in the American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation documented that pain caused by knee osteoarthritis was significantly alleviated by two weeks of spa therapy, including mud-packs and mineral-water baths.
Spas have become places focused on exercise, eating healthfully, stress reduction, therapeutic body treatments, the mind/body connection and balance. And it is therefore important that the spa experience is of a high quality and result focused.
The South African Spa Association is the ambassador for the spa industry, with representation in all aspects related to spas, such as health and wellness, tourism and hospitality, education and training. The SA Spa Association provides the consumer with peace of mind when visiting a member spa, as all spas conform to international quality standards, staff qualifications and training is maintained and a code of ethics upheld. A full list of member spas is available within the Spa Index and on the SA Spa Association Website: www.saspaassociation.co.za
